Skeletal Muscle Fibers: Muscles attached to the bones. They are striated and voluntary Cardiac Muscle Fibers: Found in the heart. They are involuntary and are striated Smooth Muscle Fibers: Found with many vital organs including the stomach. They are involuntary and aren't striated Tendon: Connects bone to muscle Sarcolemma: Myofibrils: Long cylinder shaped organelles that fill muscle cytoplasm Sarcomere: Units inside each myofibril, between two Z, discs Myofilament: Protein in between each sarcomere Myosin: Protein that splits ATP to create energy for the muscle Actin: Proteins that regulate Myosin (more or less) Motor Unit: Includes one neuron and all the muscle cells it stimulates Muscle Fatigue: Being unable to contract muscles Lactic Acid: When body lacks oxygen, glycolysis is converted to lactic acid Aerobic: Exercise with receiving the necessary oxygen Anaerobic: Exercise lacking the necessary oxygen Prime Movers: Muscle with major responsibility for movement Antagonists: Muscles that try to reverse prime movers movements |
